I disagree with you both, personally I've found this series to be the best one yet! I've loved all the John/Sherlock stuff and I love the idea of Mary joining them full time. CAM was an interesting villain, possibly underused yes but still wonderfully put together. And I can't wait for next series! Spoiler I LOVE Moriarty! It was really an interesting and different take on the series then they've done so far. But is there really any point in her joining them at all? I mean OK fair enough BEING there, like she was in episodes 1 and 2. Making sure John goes and gets his "fix" of excitement and all that. For a start by next series we should have ... Spoiler Baby John So she can hardly traipse around with them on their cases can she? Now please don't get me wrong, personally I LOVED Mary as a character, I think they added too much Sherlock into it by the end of the series but as a character she was great. Really in episode 1 and 2 I was SO happy that she was so good for not only John but Sherlock. Instead by the end of episode 3 I couldn't help but think how toxic that relationship could get and wondering why oh why we need two genius's in the show. If anything this series REALLY truly and honestly missed the Sherlock/John/Lestrade dynamic. It was too much about families and being lovey dovey with each other they missed the point that we GOT all this already. We GOT it in Hound when they had their falling out, we GET it with Lestrade, Molly and Mrs Hudson. So why when it came to Mary they had to slap us in the face with it and carry on with the "this is Sherlock getting over losing John.... But wait he isn't because Mary is as bad as them." Mary will make a great addition but she should not become more of a character then Molly, she should never take time away from a character like Lestrade and most importantly they already had the balance between mystery/human drama perfect they really need to go back towards the original balance because the human drama soaking this series got didn't work quite as well. As for Magnussen. Again don't get me wrong I liked him but it was CRIMINALLY under use of a character that makes me criticizes. Did we REALLY see anything that CAM did that deserved a bullet through the head. Blackmail? So what?! Buying state secrets? A lot of people applauded Edward Snowdon for leaking information in real life so why would any of us really find it good enough for death? Why couldn't Sherlock lose this time and next season have a whole season of seeing the destruction on lives that CAM made? Actually see terrible things not just stupid things. Lars Mikkelsen is just as good as his brother, he deserved better. He could have been such a good bad guy to face off against Sherlock, the intelligent psychopath played quieter. Why we have to end up with .... Spoiler that stupid over the top version of Moriarty? I mean come on, dark twisted and sadistic bad guy against wet, weird and very unwonderful moron? Missed a step. Wouldn't say the series was poor but it wasn't as good as the last two.
