Yeah I've been watching just forgot to make a thread! It is pretty obvious I'd like this as I'm a big fan of Shearsmith, Pemberton and Gatiss (and Dyson, we can't forget him as well!) Like League and Psychoville they have really mixed the dark elements and the comedy very well, this series is even better though, you don't even have to class it as a comedy series because the comedy is obvious in some instances but the drama is the big selling point. I love the twists at the end of the episodes! Sardines Like you I think this worked best for me on a second viewing, the first time you were trying to catch hold of where the story was going, not only that but personally I hadn't read anything about it, I didn't need to I love these two so was undoubtely going to love the series, so I was always waiting to see another room or them just getting out of the closet. I guessed about 20 different endings but in the last five minutes when it all started to piece together my mouth was wide open.
I think that is something you don't really get on TV very well these days, I've not really watched anything that has left me gobsmacked by the end.
Second viewing you know which pieces to piece together, but also because you are used to the set and you are not trying to figure out what is going on you get the subtle little jokes as well.
But it was actually quite a sad little piece! A Quiet Night In I have to say I called the ending from the start, the moment I saw the girlfriend/wife come downstairs I knew the boyfriend/husband was going to kill her. Unlike the first one I don't think the ending was quite as jaw dropping, as I said I knew that the women was going to die, didn't think the man or the two robbers would, but that was just because of the added cleaner at the end.
It was still awesome though. It showed that silent episodes can work, the comedy was a little more blunt but it was choreographed so beautifully with all the main players and worked so well that it was like two mini-stories being told.
Better then the first and gave you a great sense of expectation for the series because Sardines was so good to have something blow it out of the water (and importantly NOT TAKING AWAY FROM THE AMAZINGNESS OF IT) you kind of hope every episode is like that. Tom and Gerri I should have ******* guessed the ending! Can't believe I didn't! With the name Tom and Gerri and the only message you ever got to see left for him was from Stevie and the fact she never came back to the flat and there was long gazes at her photos I should have ******* guessed she was the ghost! Instead I really ******* believed it was Migg! And to be honest it is rare now that a double switch works and it worked perfectly! This really was more drama then comedy and it was so dark. It was great. Not sure I was meant to be laughing that Gerri was nearly a head taller then Tom but I did find that funny (hard to find women as small as Reece I guess ) but that aside it was just great. I'll have to watch it another five times before I tell you what I think really in any depth because my mind was just blown! Next weeks is called Last Gasp, and seeing you put the synopsis in spoiler tags I'll put it in spoiler tags . Jan and Graham ask WishmakerUK to brighten up their daughter's birthday.
