So you are basically saying that if you had our personality you'd want to hit him, but because you don't have our personality you don't?
Harry had a reason to be miserable. But he wasn't.
In the first two books he is a generally good kid who had a bad upbringing and had reason to feel bad about not having parents but didn't live his life on the fact he didn't. He made friends and he got on with people.
He slowly then became a total ***** about everything. "Wah, wah I don't have a mother, my parents died because of the Death Eaters and Voldemort, I'm the boy who lived I should know everything".
The thing is it never bothered him when he was a kid growing up, yes he might have WANTED parents but he didn't seem to linger on it all. I get dying in a car crash and dying by the hands of a mass murderer who is coming back to kill you too is two different things, but either way he didn't have parents.
He was just a bit pathetic in the end and I agree with you. Hermone and Ron gave up so much to help him and save the world. Harry always felt like he HAD to do these things, Ron and Hermone CHOOSE to do them and so did their families. Or at least Rons.
Hermone made her parents forget about her, and the sad thing is the books never told you whether or not she ever got to see them again.
Ron and his family faught for the cause and were maimed and killed in doing so.
The battle of Hogwarts saw families being destroyed left right and centre yet I felt Rowling wanted us to still feel sorry for Harry. Harry had nothing but his life to lose, yes he had Rons family but he was such a ass to all of the people around him so often I really had to wonder why they bothered with him.
Other things that made me want to throw up.
1. The Deathly Hallows. I could not believe how obsessed he got with them. It felt so forced. Hermone should have been the one to stay obsessed with them and that should have been her triumph. I hated how he knew everything all of the time.
2. The forced love stories. Ron and Hermone fitted, Harry suddenly becoming obsessed with Ginny and Ginny actually giving a **** after everything Harry did didn't. Tonks and Lupin was stupid. Bill and Fleur was foretold but still didn't fit.
3. The Harry being related to one of the people from the story felt so stupid.
There are probably other bits but I can't be bothered to wreck my brain for them today.
