OK so my impressions of the first episode as I shared in a little less detail on your review post Amanda.
-The story of Child Davros/Skaro/The Hitler Dilemma are extremely fascinating and I hope the second episode focuses more on that then on anything else. It was by far the best part of the episode leading to some of the most dramatic, atmospheric and important moments.
Davros was a breath of fresh air in the episode too. Everyone else either seemed to not be acting at all, acting completely out of character or just generally over the top whilst Davros brought everything back down to earth (or Skaro as it were) and brought a breathless sense of class to a over the top directed story.
I really want to know the ending of this story and hear/see more of Davros.
-Clara has turned into a know it all. Why don't UNIT just employ her seeing she now is a super genius that knows more then UNIT does. I know that Clara splintered off and saved the Doctor at every turn and all that but I've never got this sense of "he's mine" from her before. She's always felt human to me, in this she felt like she knew how important she was and stunk of that self importance.
-Missy was too over the top. Why is every line she utters have to be either extremely funny, cocky, whimsical or full of sexual innuendos or Moffat trying to gear us up for the all so shocking female Doctor?
In fact why is Moffat and some fans so obsessed with changing the sex of Time Lords? It isn't something I really care too much about but the Corsair (sp?) was apparently able to change sex and did it as a party trick (or words to that effect I'm sure?) which made it sound rare. Now every Time Lord seems to be able to do it at a whim.
I wouldn't mind if there was more of a reason then OMG HAVE THE MASTER AS A WOMAN, CALL HER THE MISTRESS (snigger snigger) OR MISSY FOR SHORT AND HAVE HER FLIRT WITH THE DOCTOR!!!!!!!1!!!1!!!
The thing is any of the past Masters I could understand being classed as the Doctors best friend because you'd always got that feeling of the lot of them (Doctor, Master, Rani etc...) being the same person with different morals. Yes they all wanted to defeat each other and get the upper hand in situations but it never felt like they truly hated each other and that it was just a difference of opinion and their over the top nature that lead them to this.
Missy is yet to feel like a Master to me let alone having a connection other then a forced sexualised one with the Doctor.
-Clara/Missy was the worst thing I've ever seen. At first it was kind of funny but looking back at it just no. It was a waste of time and the whole I'm his best friend no I am is silly. Please no more of that.
And if this is gearing up for Missy to be the Doctors "companion" like some people have hinted at I'll laugh till I die!
-Kate didn't need to be in the episode and it felt like the actress knew that.
-The Guitar scene was bewildering. WHY after such a good opening did we get thrust into a boring mystery on earth and then into medieval England with the Doctor playing a guitar at a axe battle? It was pathetic, puerile nonsense.
My biggest question I guess then being WHY are the writers currently terrified of writing anything sensible? Why does it all have to be funny or full of unfunny jokes?
Capaldi still doesn't feel like the Doctor, Clara feels less like a human and a perfectly good idea is ruined by a load of stupid plot moments that didn't need to be there.
