OK so interesting pieces from the interview ...
He talked about how his family are all in the business, how he always got chucked out of things like school and acting groups. He doesn't like bullies and always stood up for himself at school against teachers and that is one of the things he brought to his Doctor, the fact that he wouldn't tolerate bullies and wanted to believe the best in people.
He turned down the role for Captain Mainwairing, which I didn't know at all! He thinks if he had done that he wouldn't have been asked to do Doctor Who, so in the long run I think that was the best thing ever because Arthur Lowe was brilliant as Mainwairing and Pertwee was awesome as the Doctor!
Pertwee on William Hartnell who he worked with on Will Any Gentleman: He was tremendous in that as well. He was a very strong actor. He remains my favorite Doctor. Strangely enough I also first met Jean (his first wife) during that film.
He was sad meeting him again on the set of the three Doctors because he was so ill.
He said working with Patrick Troughton was a bit of a nightmare and that it made him aware going back to the five Doctors to make sure Peter Davison never felt like they were coming in and taking over from him.
His costume came about by accident.
He dislikes his tattoo, he got it on his birthday when he was drunk.
He talked about how him and unit were like family and how they'd make each other laugh and he'd help the younger actors, there are some really nice bits in there including letting John Levene drive his car to give him a confidence boost and complaining about Nicolas Courtneys driving
.
Also talking about how Caroline Johns character never fit in with the show.
There was a sad but about Robert Delgado and his sad death and how John and his second wife tried to look after Roberts widow. It then also opened a story about his first true love called Kippy which was heart breaking (she was always ill and died of cancer
) .
He talked about being a motorbike lover and driving on the wall of death.
He talked about knowing Ian Flemming during the war and how he messed up an interview because he didn't want to get stuck talking to Free Frenchmen.
There is a lot about his time during World War II and a lot on incidents when he lost a lot of friends. Including once during a bombing when he went down in a shelter and survived but the rest of his crew went home to loved ones and got killed and also a bit about advice he got (or heard) from Churchill.
He talked about how his work in the war gave him a love for gadgets that he brought to Doctor Who with him. Also about anti-German sentiments after the war as his second wife is German.
There is a bit were he talks about how much he loves his son Sean Pertwee
.
And the last bit of this half (next half is out this month I haven't got it yet out the 7th!) is about the 5 Doctors and his feelings on replacing Hartnell with Hardnell. He didn't seem to like the idea much and it seemed to bother him and Patrick that it could happen to them.
Anything you want me to go into more detail about just ask
