I've seen Thor... Spoiler Spoiler To be quite honest I was disappointed. Tom Hiddleston especially disappointed me but that was down to sloppy writing.
Start with the cons : All characters tended to be a "best bits" of them. There was no real depth to them they become witty one liners (Loki), too angry (Odin) or too love struck (Thor) without any other of their many character flaws/strengths. It felt like they took the bits everyone loved from Thor and made them 100 times bigger. Anthony Hopkins in particular was pretty weird. It felt like it had been edited together from a much longer movie and personally I'd have liked to see the other edit! Not that it was mind you I'm just saying a lot of things kind of jumped from one to the other. Not enough of Siff and the Warriors three... For a movie set more on Asgard they were still criminally underused.
Pros : Still even with all that griping a really good movie with some great bits too it. LOVED Zachary Levi as Fandral, along with Ray Stevenson as Volstagg and Jamie Alexander as Sif they made the movie! Oh and of course Stellan Skarsgard as Erik! They stuck with the camp humour which is always good, Thor is pretty camp and without it it would have drowned in its own importance. The comedy was top class and I did get some really good laughs and Christopher Eccleston as Malekith was awesome!
Biggest disappointment? Spoiler Spoiler The Captain America trailer. Looks like Captain has been put into a GI Joe film by mistake! From the small bits of him we saw all his charm has been stripped away to make a giant action movie. I'll hate it if that is the case! The end credits bit : Spoiler Spoiler I heard the Collector will have something to do with Guardians? He seemed alright, maybe a bit over the top but we'll see how it goes. I quite like the idea of him being a big bad going through a few movies, I know next to nothing about Guardians or their source material but I feel more excited by that one then Captain America! A little more indepth : Spoiler Spoiler I really enjoyed the film don't get me wrong, all the acting was great. I don't think it was as strong story wise... Scratch that I don't think the SCRIPT was as good. The story had so much potential that was kind of lost, the love story came too much into the forefront and as I said the characters were just... witty one liners.
I feel people thought all we loved about Loki was his tricks and big gob, we loved so much more about him. Tom brought so much to the character as always but I felt he wasn't given the lines to do as much. This story was as much about Loki/Thor as any story with them two will be but it felt like it got a side line to the romance. The first movie got this balance right and made Thor/Jane such a sweet little tale, this shoved it in our face and I'm surprised that they didn't just get on and have sex in the middle of the movie.
Again the potential of telling a story on Asgard was missed. Where was Sif and the Warriors three? Yes they got a tad more screen time but they should have been there. They are Thor's family as much as anyone is but it was like he couldn't care less about them and instead of having them fight together they just disappeared again. Zachary Levi was outstanding in the movie and I could easily have a film about the other Asgardians without Thor and Loki any day of the week, in fact why make Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D at all? Just have Asgard the TV series!
Christopher Eccleston and the story of the dark elves was criminally underplayed, at times it felt too Star Trek and even though it was such a compelling story being told it was just... forgotten.
I believe most of the cast changed between films, can't say it was for the best. Underneath it there was still the love and care that Branagh and co worked into the first film but it was drowned in a river of "oh look lets have a love story and make Thors girlfriend the most important thing in the whole movie!"
Disappointing because of the standard of Thor and Avengers (well most of the movies to be honest) but still a good movies. As for Days of Future Past it has potential I will say that, I'll never be a fan of bringing the older character back into it, First Class was such a great movie that it deserved a sequel on its own rights and I hope there will be a third with the younger characters because that was a series that could have rocked! But by adding the baggage of the original three movies directly into the series we might not even get a third one. And I'm no fan of Jackman's Wolverine being inserted into everything just happy that Disney have Avengers else that series would have become Wolverines big day out with new friends. But I am excited to see it! That is the main thing. That doesn't fill me with joy to be honest, hope that it is as good as you say but that I don't find the cons too distracting! I will say I won't be happy if it seems that any of these films have lost their charm, I do enjoy Captain America, Thor and Avengers and will be let down if they stray too far from the feel of the movies. As for not knowing much about Guardians.... I'm with you on that one. I'm hoping it'll be good though. I don't see the point in having it be Wolverine going back, I know he's more popular then Kitty is but to be honest no character is going to get a chance to become popular if they are always put into the background of what is happening so that Wolverine gets the part. I was originally thinking that Quicksilver would take them back in time but I have read now that it is possibly going to be Kitty taking Logan back. I don't know, I think all we can do is watch and make our minds up because it can either be a total classic or a total flop.
