I am very happy with the casting.

To start with he's totally different from Matt Smith who had an awkward feel and ended up portraying the Doctor more through his eyes then anything else. Long limbed and clumsy. Totally different with Capaldi who I think has a more emotive face, I don't think age necessarily means you'll be able to play a 900+ year old any better but he'll portray it DIFFERENTLY, it is probably harder for Matt and David being so fresh and young looking having to show wisdom the likes of what the Doctor has but I think Peter will be able to do it a lot better. Actually better is the wrong word, maybe effortlessly.

I also think the way he smiles sometimes would make him just right for a more sinister and morally gray character. Maybe a step away from Smith and Tennant who just want to do what is right, maybe something goes wrong just before his regeneration?

Though I can also see the other side and he could end up being a really sweet Doctor like Pertwee!

There is always so much to think about and I can't wait to see him in action (just not till after Christmas else we'll have a very depressed Smith fan on the boards )

I have to add to the not sure. I agree with Luc, how the heck can I be happy about someone I don't know? Excited yes! Happy for Capaldi sure. But personally I'm more confused then happy. But then I'm being pedantic about the wording of the question.

I am not unhappy about it just I can't literally sit here and say OHHH WOW HE'S GOING TO BE FANTASTIC! When I've never seen him in anything. I wasn't happy really about Matt Smith either but then again that was mainly down to not caring . Matt ended up being brilliant, Capaldi probably will too but that is a different question.

Personally I feel undecided, happy that he is different, happy it isn't a stunt casting, happy that he seems to love the show. When Zoe started to big everything up I thought "wow maybe this is going to be a big name" afterwards I was a bit meh.

Still that isn't anything to do with Capaldi I can't WAIT to see him on the screen! But I totally (shockingly) agree with Luc that I just can't be HAPPY with the decision. I can't be UPSET by it either. I'm just kind of meh...

I also don't think I'll watch anything else with him in other then Fires of Pompeii, mainly because I've seen the whole sweary thing he did Gif'd on Tumblr and know he will be more like he was in Fires then in something where he is fing and blinding the whole time. After I've seen episode one and two of his era I might watch something he's been in to compare it but I don't want to go in with expectations, like Matt I want the first thing I see of him (other then Fires) to be his Doctor. Because if I don't like him in other things I'll just end up depressed about the decision and that isn't fair on his incarnation of the Doctor .

Now I'm rambling and I'll shut up and go talk about anime somewhere.

I had never heard of him either. Eccleston apparently isn't as "big" a name that I thought he was, I think a lot of Capaldi's fans like to point to him being a oscar winner and all that but he still isn't a big name. I mean I'd never heard of him and he's meant to be a big deal in England so can't wait to hear how the Americans on here feel .

When Eccleston was announced I knew who he was, not big name but big enough. Cult status, decent presence.

Tennant never heard of him, Smith never heard of him.

Does this make me happy or not?

Neither. Like above how can I be happy or upset? I will base my views on him when he's in the show.

Personally I will vote happy because it seems that he'll be a good choice and he was very Doctorish in the interview.

Also like the idea of keeping the thread separate at least till after the 50th, maybe after Christmas too and changing the polls and discussions.

Well lets take another look at the first interview shall we?



Loved him grabbing his lapels at the beginning. He is endearing as a person, I love the "looking in the mirror and seeing the Doctor" but I also love that he is a big fan.

But this... This makes me think we could get some interesting "dark" moments.



And I'm changing the poll to "What do you want : dark or fun?"

Ohhh look at me, I want him to be dark, cunning, anti-social and a *******!

I want a Doctor more like Colin's Doctor but then he was my favorite.

I just want a little different to the nice guys of 10 and 11, the Doctor has his dark side and not only when he's angry. He can be dark and cunning without provocation. Tennant was all gnashing teeth and superhero like, Matt got real angry real fast. I want someone who already starts on the dark side.

Actually I'd really like there to be another companion like Jamie. One that doesn't take the Doctor as serious as the Doctor wants them to take him and will stand up for himself and others when the Doctor goes too far but who respects the Doctor because he knows he's his better and who actually wants to be there for the adventure and to learn.

There is a rumour that there is going to be a male companion too but as a love interest for Clara (yuck) but I'd be so happy if he was just some poor guy they picked up either on an alien planet or else back in time (for us of course) who just wants to be educated. Problem if we get someone equal to the Doctor in the brains department is they could end up another Adric. A know it all who becomes a pain to the audience because you don't mind so much when they know better than the Doctor when it comes to human stuff or even just common courtesy but when they are being smug about knowing a difficult equation you just can't be bothered to get on either side.
