No I agree pretty much with that.
We have a VUE and our local cinema. To be honest the VUE glasses aren't too bad, but I've been to the local cinema twice, once they turned the sound off half way through the film and the 3D was terrible anyway and the second time the glasses they had were so bad I sat through the film actually looking at my own face and nothing on the screen!
I don't think it adds much, in fact I was more upset by Dredd that I had to watch it twice in 3D. I had no choice in the matter as Dredd was filmed specifically for 3D and therefore wasn't shown in anything but 3D.
Thankfully the Hobbit was in 2D because when me and David went to see it days after it came out we decided to buy VIP seats, and its a good thing we got VIP seats because the cinema was packed! If we had been forced into buying 3D as well (like my mum was for Dredd) the ticket price would have been up to £15 (thank god for orange Wednesdays!) Thing is when I saw the Hobbit in 3D it wasn't worth the extra money either! I like my 2D movies, happy not everything in VUE is 3D only, only Dredd and Silent Hill so far.
