I feel very open to attack here
but I'll just say what I always say.
Obviously I am a women and I believe that there should be equality between the sexes and I believe there should be equality between everyone.
I am not a feminist for many reasons.
My main problem is with keyboard warriors not so much people who call themselves feminists. I hate when people try to fight injustice by trying to take the voice away from others. And most of all I HATE with a passion generalisations. I truly detest anyone who comes at me with a Group A v Group B type of argument.
Of course I'm not saying feminists are like that but the majority of the time I spend online it is this kind of person I come across. Mainly because its Tumblr and people reblog it more for the sentiment then thinking what they say (though I have just followed a very angry blog that told everyone in the world that we are lucky we have the PRIVILEGE to ignore news programs. Now I'm not sure what world they live in but I'm pretty sure everyone in the world has the privilege of ignoring the news if they want!)
I guess why I dislike the label is because I work with so many people every day that I kind of see injustice happening to everyone. In fact I'm not sure I've ever seen a stereotypical white guy who lawds his privilege in life over everyone. I've seen white men with domineering partners, I've seen abused white men, I've seen gay white men who are violent against straight white men, I've seen gay white men sexually harrass other men regardless of their sexual orientation, I've seen women catcalling men, I've seen women objectify men, in fact a lot of the women I've worked with can be WORSE then the men! I've seen black guys who are both sexist and treat anyone (even other black people) like they are below them. Don't get me started on our customers these are all volunteers I'm talking about! Our customers, from all backgrounds and walks of life can really open your eyes!
Yes I've also seen the "boys club" at work but I've seen many other not really talked about "clubs" as well.
I think a good minority of humans just see other humans as beneath them and I prefer to look at the world like that. That we are all humans. I'm not straight, I'm not easy to describe. If you met me you'd forget me instantly. I might be white but I have none of this so called privilege that I've been told I have. I don't see other human beings for the labels that they cling to or that they have thrust upon them I just see them as humans.
For example, if you took a whole load of babies and put them in a room fully dressed in the same colour you'd have to be a bloody genius to work out whether they are male or female let alone straight or gay or whether they have been born into the right body at all!
So when you walk into a room and start judging ADULTS you really would be a genius to be able to tell anything about them.
I'm babbling I'm sorry.....
So to sum it up :
I am not a feminist because I believe that we shouldn't be looking at equality for one type of person over another. I'd rather the world came together and just wanted every human to be equal no matter who they are, where they come from or what they wanted to be.
I HATE people telling me or others they can't have a say in a matter because it doesn't concern them. The well being and injustices of others should concern us all and the more voices that join in, ESPECIALLY those of the so called "privileged" that want to prove that they are equal to others should not be quietened because they are unimportant. All human voices are important and it should be important that we all shout and scream for the equality of human beings at every given moment of our lives.
I also hate it that some quarters seem to think the only way to "right the wrongs" of us downtrodden (I manage to be privileged and downtrodden at the same time. Lucky me!) is to stamp the Privileged Straight White Man into the ground. Now that is a very small view of people but it seems to be one that I'm seeing more and more often (some of the comments I saw aimed at Tom Hiddleston for doing the #HeforShe thing in support of Emma Watson was horrible, I mean one of the most famous and amazing men in the world was trying to help women get their voices heard and a load of women wanted him to shut up? Really?! Because it'll be better for the world if these people just didn't try and help get womens voices heard by telling the world to listen to them... Of course this makes sense!)
I don't hate feminists, I hate having to listen to a load of people of any kind telling me what I should and shouldn't feel, what I am, what what I am means to the world and so on. I have just as little voice in this world as any of these people and I've seen injustices done to people of all kinds. I know good police officers and I've met horrible power hungry ones. Some of my best friends are nurses and just want to help people I wouldn't tar them with the same brush as some horrible nurse who makes the lives of those she's looking after miserable.
I guess what I'm trying to say is I don't get why people have to hate each other so much.
I've yet to see anyone come out and just say humans should love humans lets get rid of all the labels (male/female, black/white, gay/straight/trans/bi etc, etc) and lets just all do our best to fight for the world to be a equal place for everyone.
Or if I have I tend to then see them shot down for being one of those privileged white people who shouldn't have a voice.
I just want all people to see people as other people and just as a label of any kind.
So that is why I don't like feminism because it just looks at one tiny side of a much bigger story.
